Gizmo of the Week: Points, Lines, and Equations

As a math teacher, one of your goals is to demonstrate the relationship between the effort a student puts into his or her work and the resulting achievements. In other words, finding the relationship between the input (effort) and the output (results).

The relationship between input and output is the subject of the Points, Lines, and Equations Gizmo. In the Gizmo, students define a line using two points. Students then look at the equation of the line to see how input is related to output. The lesson materials for this Gizmo introduce students to key terms such as ordered pairs, input/output, and x and y intercepts.
