Grant helps middle school teachers meet science standards with Gizmos

UnknownIn a press release, Barrick Gold announced that they have partnered with Clark County School District in Nevada to “provide 26 middle schools with Gizmos, highly interactive online learning modules that teach students critical science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) concepts.” With the grant, 34 Clark County middle school teachers will be trained by ExploreLearning to use Gizmos in their classrooms.

“We are very excited about this partnership between Barrick Gold and the school district to continue spreading the benefits and values of STEM education” says CCSD Superintendent Pat Skorkowsky. “The training that teachers will receive through this curriculum will have a tremendous impact in the classroom, and provide a platform for our students to ensure that they will be able to achieve at even higher levels.”

“We recognize the role Nevada businesses need to play in supporting Nevada schools,” says Leslie Maple, Barrick’s Manager of Communications and Corporate Affairs. “As a company that is highly dependent on STEM-based skills, we want to make sure these students and teachers have the resources they need to meet these new science education standards.” She adds, “Focusing on STEM subjects gives students the tools they need to succeed in the high-tech jobs they will find in that future.”
