Algebra in the Real World!
Kim Washington, a high school math teacher in Norfolk, VA praised the real world application that Gizmos gives her Algebra students.
"When we talk about slope and rate of change, they can actually see it in Gizmos. I think that helps them. I struggle to get them to apply Math, to get them to understand that what we're doing, you're going to do every day. You pick the right Gizmo and 'Voila,' the application is there for you!"
Here are just a couple of the real world Gizmos Kim likes to use:
Distance Time Graphs -- creates a graph of a runner's position versus time
Modeling Linear Systems -- a cat and mouse chase modeled with a system of 2 lines.
